I always like to start the article out with a video, mainly because hearing the artist before reading about them gives you a better frame of mind for who you are actually reading about. This one will give you some immaculate Sunday vibes too. Check it out.

BEL - Woman on Fire (Official Visualizer)

That’s Bel- she is a phenomenal singer/songwriter from Los Angeles, California. Music has always played a role in her life; she even said she started singing when she was just a toddler. Music was obviously in her blood from the very beginning. Her mother, originally from Argentina, introduced her to many great artists growing up, but the single person who has had the most impact on her music career is the one and only, Stevie Nicks. I personally hear a bit of Stevie whenever Bel sings, which Bel admits to being told before. She thinks it is such an honor to be compared to someone as great as Stevie Nicks.

Bel released her first single, “Silver Line,” just last year on May 22, 2020. At the peak of the pandemic, she released this song to show that there is always a positive side to every negative situation- whether it be a breakup or a full-blown pandemic, you are gonna get through it.

So how did this song come to life for Bel?

Ah, the beauty of music.

One thing that fascinates me about musicians is how they express their feelings and emotions through this particular form of art; as Bel said, “it’s my own therapy.” It cannot be easy to share your life with people you don’t even know, but yet, part of the beauty of music is that it allows you to get an in-depth look into the minds of people while also giving the artist an outlet for themselves. Artists go through situations similar to us and all have similar feelings, but they have a way of sharing that with us and giving us a way out of our own heads. Artists are able to say what we think and feel when most of the time we can’t even find the words to say ourselves. Music has personally saved me from a lot as I’ve mentioned before, and I say all of this to emphasize the fact that there are plenty of others who have gone through hard times during this pandemic as well and/or who have felt locked inside alone battling with their own minds. Although this can certainly bring you down to your lowest, you are not alone, and we must choose to focus on whatever good we can find. With Bel being the amazing musician she is, she was able to give us a song to express all of that for us and show us the silver lining of it all… With that said, you are going to get through this. WE are going to get through this.

Now, what’s the opposite of heartbreak?

The opposite of heartbreak is that honeymoon, puppy dog love. Bel’s most recent single (which she said is her most happy and uptempo song out right now), “Something Beautiful,” gives you a look into that newfound spark of love that geniunely takes you by sheer surprise.

Let’s breakdown some of her lyrics.

In Santa Monica
Our words flow with the breeze
It’s been awhile since I’ve been
This weak in the knees
Emotions running with the tide

The conversations you have with that person come so easy- to the point where you feel just weak in the knees when you talk to them. This is a feeling that rocks you to your core as your heart races at just the thought of them, and those butterflies keep fluttering in your stomach. Your thoughts and feelings are undoubtedly all over the place.

I can’t help but think
We are on the brink of
Something beautiful
I can’t help but feel
That this goes deeper
Than just chemicals

When you know, you know… You feel it, and there is no denying it.

So we dive right into
All our deepest fears
Oh but I don’t mind

What’s the hardest part about opening up to someone? Telling them what you are most afraid of and giving them your heart, even with the uncertainty of what they’ll do with it. But that is what feeling vulnerable is all about, right? Letting someone else into the deepest corners of your mind and realizing that you are not alone. You realize you don’t mind sharing that space with the other person because you know their intentions are pure, and you just can’t help but want them to know everything. That’s what true love is all about- you have all these feelings towards someone, and you just want them to know every single thing about you (and vice versa).

Isn’t it cool to be able to sing along to lyrics that are relatable to you? Whether they’re about silver lines or something beautiful, there is a song for everything.

Currently, Bel has released just four songs, but is sitting on about FIVE years worth of music. She has a new EP being released this May and is looking forward to releasing even more music soon! Bel can’t wait for the world to open back up so she can perform again and get back to doing what she loves most. She hopes to see everyone dancing at her shows and singing along to music that people everywhere can identify with.

Cheers

-Stephen
