Luke Mitrani
First things first, let’s set the tone- listen to this song!
Luke Mitrani is a producer, singer, songwriter, ex-professional snowboarder, and one of the chillest dudes I have ever met in my life. He has lived a life that most of us only dream of- a life full of traveling the world and flying high in the sky. No matter the circumstances surrounding him, he has always tried to live life to the absolute fullest and be completely free.
For the majority of his life, Luke was a professional snowboarder. He adventured to numerous places with his friends while also competing and playing music during his free time. Unbeknownst to him, as 2013 approached, the life he knew was about to be flipped upside down. Just before the Olympics, a normal run would turn into a career-ending crash. From that one accident, he ended up breaking his neck, ceasing his time in extreme sports. Fortunately, Luke describes this horrific accident as “a blessing in disguise.” Listen to what he had to say:
This blessing in disguise was able to transform the day in, day out rat race that Luke was dealing with to a more fulfilling and poetic lifestyle that he could never have in the snowboarding world. Although Luke did have to take a big step back from action sports as a whole, the snowboard community is still a massive part of his life.
When Luke first pursued a life of music, nobody took him seriously; no one even knew he was writing music until his debut album, Walk on the Moon, which dropped in early 2018. He eventually was able to link up with producer, Lynx, who helped establish his sound and guided him through the production process. This ultimately paved the way and gave him a solid foundation to build upon moving forward.
But what is the overall meaning behind it all for Luke Mitrani?
When you listen to his music, you can hear and even feel the message that Luke is wanting to portray, particularly with his album, Live It Up. The overall meaning the album represents is simply living life and not taking it too seriously. There was a moment during our chat when we were talking about living in the present, and Luke said something that really grounded me. I was explaining how sometimes we get caught up looking at life five to ten years down the road and living in the future rather than cherishing the moment we are currently in. After I said that, he referred back to why he writes this type of music. He said,
For me, that was such a great reminder, and I hope it is for you too. We only have one life to live, and we should do our best to make the most of it.
I think it is cool how Luke and his music have been able to remind me of that powerful message. Luke knows his limits on how much spirituality he can preach without his music sounding “corny,” but he also knows the power that coincides with good music. What is it about music though that gives it this “power?” How do you feel when you listen to a certain song? Have you ever noticed how music has this ability to take you back in time, ground you in the now, or even get you looking ahead? During our talk, Luke really emphasized the power of music and the effect it has had on his life. I as well can attest to the effect music has had on my life as it has brought me out of many dark places and has had the capability to ground me when I tend to get ahead of myself. Music is such a powerful thing.
This next song is by far my favorite that Luke has released. We were able to talk about this song in depth, and he asked me my opinion about it. In all honesty, I don’t think I have ever watched a music video before and had absolutely no idea what just happened afterwards. It was almost like I woke up from a dream. Watch it.
This is a pretty far out song, but I think it sums up exactly what Luke is trying to say with his music. Music isn’t always about the lyrics, and life isn’t always about being super successful. Getting caught up in the everyday rat race can feel quite lifeless; we should instead try to enjoy the little things and be present… Because one of these days, we will all fly away.
Cheers
